Music Monday - 20091109

My song today came to me during our praise portion of our Sunday worship (i consider the whole time spent in church as worship - not just the singing part. A really good blog about this subject can be read here). The theme resonates within my soul and really speaks to me. When i heard it is swore it was an old time hymn, but i found out that it is less than fifteen years old.
The message from a lot of pulpits is how much God loves us, and it's very true. But our relationship is not based on what i have done, or whether i am 'valued' or not. It is entirely based on what Christ has done. Too often our focus is on ourselves. How does it make us feel, oh what blessing we receive, oh what can God do for me. Every sin we commit we contribute to what Christ went through. We caused Christ's pain... we each nailed Him to that cross. In the third stanza... we were all there. It is only by filter through what Christ came and accomplished can we really deeply appreciate the love God does have for us, the worth we now feel... after the cross.
How Deep the Father's Love Lyrics & Music: Stuart Towend, 1995. How deep the Father's love for us, How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss, The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the chosen One, Bring many sons to glory Behold the Man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice, Call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom (REPEAT)
Don't get me wrong... i know that i am loved... that i am 'valuable' to God. it is just that my worship of God does not start there, for my salvation was not initiated by me. It was all of God. Lest He call me... my voice would still be calling from the crowd. But praise be to God that He did seek me, and that i was found.

I adore this song. One of my very favorites. The power of the cross is just incredible to me.
