I am a comic book fan
I have been since I was old enough to remember. I would go to the local 7-Eleven in Cherry Hill, NJ and gawk at the Superman and Shazaam comic books. Every once in a while my mom would buy me one and I'd read it until the pages fell apart. The one book I remember was when Superman took on the Flash.
As I got older my tatstes changed. I got into GI Joe, the Uncanny X-men, Spiderman, whatever caught my eye. My favorites were 'Ghost Rider' and the X-men back in High School.
Fast forward to more recent times I grew to liking the Green Arrow and any Wolverine comics I could find. Although I no longer collect individual titles I still have a few magazines laying around. I even collected a 'rookie' team of the original X-men of 'Heroclix' for fun (since several friends play the game).
Now with the movie technology catching up I've enjoyed watching some of them. The Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the recent Batman movies I have really enjoyed. I will most likely go to see 'Ghost Rider' when it comes out, but since becoming a Christian that title has become... a little uneasy to say the least.
Well, that is my ramblings for today.
Verse for today:
John 15:12-17, ESV
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, [1] for the servant [2] does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

I've never really done the comic book thing...but I know people who have. I don't think you should be too uneasy about the "ghost" reference...unless it totally convicts you. I think it's important for us to remain balanced with the culture so that we CAN have conversations and help lead people to conversion experiences...Just my thought. As I said, if it's a personal conviction...and it might cause you or another to stumble....then by all means, avoid it.
Have a great day.
Susan
Thank you Susan. :) I think I am a tad nervous because I do not have ANY reservations about seeing it!
Ah, well... thank you for the helpful words.
First.. I am also a big comic book fan. Since getting married and having two kids I have had to decide where to spend my money comic books or mortage and diapers. Guess which one wins. DC is my favorite and I have a large tattoo sleeve on my leg featuring Superman and Batman. I will have to post some pics for you on my blog.
Second... HOLY CRAP... Cherry Hill, NJ??? I lived in Cinnaminson and now live in West Deptford. When I lived in Cinnaminson I would walk to a comic store in Delran and spend about $40 to $60 a week on comics. Obviously that was when I was still in school and living with my parents.
All this time reading your blog and we probably have some sort of connection. Six Degrees and all that good stuff.
It's been a while since I walked around Cherry Hill. Like - 1973/74. I remember the apartmens that we lived in had bif living room windows, and each building was named after a President. That and there was a water tower that said "Cherry Hill" on it.
It is pretty amazing.
