Random Dozen - 20101006

Linda over at 2nd Cup of Coffee hosts a weekly meme where she works hard to come up with completely random questions, a dozen at a time, to share with the blogosphere.  Yesterday she actually posted a shout out for questions to be sent to here from her readers and today is the fruits of that request.  So, without further ado...

1. If you had a theme song that played whenever you walked into a room full of people, what would it be? ~ My mood of late the Mercy Me song, Bring the Rain really seems to fit the bill.  Rain is one of those things that brings such a brood range of responses.  On one hand people see it as somber, depressing, a harbinger of sad things.  Funerals in movies almost are always in the rain.  But it is also an imagery of refreshing, things being purged and cleaned... refreshed.  The rain comes in a cleans the landscape and provides a fresh scent.  It brings about renewal, strength.  I am not sure what others would have picked for my "theme song", but... i would go with "Bring the Rain" by Mercy Me.
I am Yours regardless of
The dark clouds that may loom above
Because You are much greater than my pain
You who made a way for me
By suffering Your destiny
So tell me what's a little rain
So I pray

2. Which of your shoes are your absolute favorite, and which are of the object of your most painful shoe-buyer's remorse? ~ Sandals.  I have a pair of that weigh next to nothing, and are really comfortable.  I can tighten them to where they don't slide, and yet not cut off the circulation, leaving me to be able to walk long distances in them without any issues.  In regards to buyer's remorse... i recently paid to have a pair of work shoes resoled... but the results were less than impressive.  Even after spending the money on them... they will most likely end up in a landfill somewhere. 8(

3. Tell about your favorite birthday celebration that you've personally experienced. ~ I am not inclined to big celebrations, either for me or for my friends.  I like getting together and just playing Mexican Train (dominoes) or some other game like that.

4. If you were a flavor of ice cream, which would you be? ~
I have no clue.  I am really not an expert on all of the various flavors... i pretty much enjoy just vanilla, and the toppings are not mixed together to make a soup.  I like the variety of texture and taste.  I think i will go with Tooty Fruity.

5. Have you ever had a crush on a movie star? Who was it, and are you still crushing? ~ To be honest, not really.  I tried but... none of them really came close to a crush.  I think the closest i ever got was Elisabeth Shue from Adventures in Babysitting.

6. Glasses or braces--if you had to wear one, which would it be? ~ Well, being a life long wearer of Glasses i would say... glasses.  Braces are painful to see... they just look painful.  And with me getting mouth sores anytime i bite my lip... no thank you.

7. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? ~
This question comes around again every once in a while.  This time i would like to answer Rivendell.  I love the imagery in my mind from Tolkien's books... and the movie scenes were very stunning as well.  I love the idea of a race of people living in harmony with the land around them, and being able to pursue learning and interests ad infinitum. Some day i will get to do just that in regards to my Lord Jesus Christ.  Although, i am sure whatever mental image i have of Heaven is woefully inaccurate.

8. If money were no obstacle, what would be the perfect birthday gift to receive? ~ I would be incredibly happy with a 'Paid in Full' notice of my home mortgage.

9. What is your favorite birthday meal? ~ I must be a complicated person... because it depends on a lot of things.  What is my mood... what have we been eating a lot of lately... that sort of thing.  In general i enjoy a good fillet Mignon, 6 or 7 oz. is sufficient.  Some garlic mashed potatoes, and a crisp oven baked green bean with my Beloved's "special seasoning".  Yum!

10. Do you still send hand-written thank you notes? ~ Sadly... no.  Not nearly as often as i should.  I will more readily open up an e-mail and jot a note... or even a text message...

11. What is something you've done that you never thought you'd do? ~ Rappel Australian style.  I have what i like to refer to as a "severe respect for heights" and although i do not have problems rappelling in general... or going up into skyscrapers and looking at the view... i do seem to have some trouble looking over cliffs, etc. straight down, so when my old First Sergeant goaded me into trying out Australian... it took me a while to do it.  My first rappel my heart was in my throat, but once i got going down the rope i loved it.  I must have rappelled a dozen times that day.  I never did get a perfect rappel in, and a few times TOP let me "bounce" by deliberately feeding me too much slack (which left a neat rope sized bruise across my belt line), but i really enjoyed the sense of almost free falling down the rope.

12. Mount Rushmore honors four US Presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. If you could add any person to Mount Rushmore, who would you add and why? ~ That is really a tough one.  My mind goes to John F. Kennedy (and i am a Republican with heavy Tea Party leanings), but in many ways... he did not get the chance to serve long enough.  I know as a Republican i am probably expected to say Ronald Reagan, but in the end i have issues with how he really launched the deficit spending platform that BOTH parties have embraced.  I LOVED what Bill Clinton did in regards to this nation's budget... if it just weren't for many of his other views.  So... my short answer is that i do not feel that we have had another President worth of such an honor... yet.  May God grant us such a public servant again... and soon.

I LOVE that you are secure in your manhood enough to say that if you were ice cream, you'd be Tooty Fruity! :)

Oh, and I love playing Mexican Train dominoes. It's been a while!

Blessings...
