One word

Isn't it amazing what power a single word can have? On Saturday I mowed my lawn for the first time in about 3 weeks. There just has not been enough rain to get it to grow. While I was out there is was mostly a dusty and hot experience. The grass was crunching under foot, and the little shards of hay were pretty wuch drifting everywhere. Well one little word for Saturday and Sunday night... rain. My grass has turned from predominatly brown to mostly green. I know we've not had enough to make a lasting difference, but it was nice to have. I have been selfishly praying for more rain. Mostly because I like rain. I like being out in it, I like sitting on my porch watching it. Not all the time, but most of the time I really enjoy it. Another example of a powerful word... divorce. In the past week I have had not one, not two, but three friends mention this powerful word. One friend is basically in a verbally and mentally abusive marriage. So much so that 'they' (I use 'they because I do not wish to say he or she) have been searching for a Biblical basis for leaving 'their' spouse. My beloved and I were talking about it last night and I will be reseaching it some more in the coming days and weeks. Another couple has basically seperated. After talking with 'them' it seems like it is basically over. 'They' told me that basically 'their' conversion experience was due to the crowd 'they' were hanging with. 'They' want to go out and see what else is out there. In regards to 'their' marriage... basically 'they' were tired of fighting all the time. The third friend as left the home. Not in order to pursue a divorce but in order hopefully trigger changes that need to be made. 'They' have sought to go to counsilling together with 'their' mate but thus far has not been successful. It is just scary. After being married almost fourteen years myself I have never had a friend even mention the word divore before and all of a sudden I have three of them facing this very real possibility. The last example of how a word can be powerful, and the one that actually triggered the title and them of this blog, was what happened to me last night. It was getting pretty late. My beloved was busy getting the last minute things together for the boy's first day of school. I was upstairs finishing up a few chores for the day and my beloved walked in (finished with her tasks) and she shared how much she appreciated and respected me. That was nice. We then got to talking about the upcoming week and she asked for my thoughts and I used the word 'unhappy'. Basically our entire week is consistantly booked solid - many times with 2 or 3 things going on in the same night. It is getting harder and harder to schedule date nights and I am not one who likes to be active all the time. I would prefer to be in bed no later than 10:30 at night, I like having things done before the last minute, and I like to have a chance to prepare for changes (not that I am any good at changes, I just like a chance to do it. :) ). Things went from nice warm to cold. I'm not saying she would not talk to me - but let's just say the conversation was pretty much over. *sigh* Updates: None - soon I promise (or at least hope...) Verse for today: Matthew 6:25-33,esv “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? [7] And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

You're right...words are powerful. I hope that the divorce situations resolve themselves positively.

Thanks for stopping by today. You know, being busy can be both a blessing and a curse...I hope that you all get settled quickly this week.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been guilty of saying one word, or sometimes a short phrase, and then wonder why I opened my mouth. It's funny how one word or phrase can seem ok in the mind but once it passes through the lips, YIKES!!!
I hope things ease up for you this week........
